| The rural center for excellence is a complex of buildings centered around the Mother-Child Medical Center, a health center providing care to local mothers and their children. It is composed of two elements: a maternity ward and a clinic for regular care. Also included in the MCMC master plan: a staff dormitory for visiting health care providers, a small school, and a global focus on innovative spaces for public education and interaction.

The rural location of Ipuli will drive a design inspired by efficiency; the logistics of transport, the availability of building materials and a humble budget will dictate a return to the fundamentals of our design training. Our desire to create meaningful place in this foreign site and with meager means will require a highly developed understanding of the site, its inhabitants, and their aspirations.
Community support is already strong; the village has donated 20 acres for future construction of the Clinic and School. Design began with a meeting in Ipuli in April 2006. The project continues to develop in coordination with the Tanzania School | Link |, currently under construction.
